Emel Mathlouthi from Tunisia has been a politically active artists throughout her career. After winning a talent competition in 2006 her music was banned from television and radio by the Tunisian government. She then moved to France to be able to continue her work, and her songs continued to spread in her home country. When the Arab spring started in Tunisia she performed for the protestors in the capital, which established her as part of the sound of the revolution for many Tunisians.
