The Norwegian Baroque Orchestra is Norway’s leading early music orchestra, and consists of the best baroque specialists from across the country. The ensemble is led by German-Norwegian cellist Kristin von der Goltz, and has performed a fixed concert series in the Second House for a number of years.
The orchestra's new concert serie Vagabondia examines how throughout the 1600s and 1700s, large European cities continuously developed new musical styles, and fought for access to the best musicians, composers and vocalists from across Europe.
23 March: Vienna
The German siege of Vienna, which culminated in the battle of September 1683, changed the musical landscape of Europe forever. The battle was duly depicted in several works. The German and exotic was cultivated in the music, and the Germans consequently took up new instruments. This concert presents music from Vienna at the end of the 1600s, by composers such as Biber, Schmelzer, Fux and Muffat.
