Text from the organiser:
On 10 July, Les Frères Smith bring their explosive Afrikanbeat universe to SALT. For nearly two decades, the band have explored the crossroads between afrobeat, ethio-jazz, funk, highlife, jazz and soul – always placing groove, trance and uncompromising energy at the heart of their music.
With their latest album, MUTATION, they take audiences on a musical journey through West Africa, from Conakry and Ghana to Cameroon and Nigeria. The result is an intense and hypnotic soundscape driven by blazing horn sections, polyrhythms and the powerful voice of Swala Emati Smith.
Les Frères Smith are renowned for performances that feel both like a celebration and an act of rebellion – where dance, improvisation and collective energy merge into one great explosion of rhythm.
ABOUT BYSOMMER:
Few artists have captured Oslo as precisely as Lillebjørn Nilsen. Through a long artistic career, poetry and folk songs, he gave us a profound insight into the soul of the city. For many years, Lillebjørn and his collaborator Helge Westbye invited audiences to “Bysommer”, a concert held during Norway’s main summer holiday period. We are now continuing that legacy with the Bysommer concert series, where artists who, like Lillebjørn, love Oslo bring positive energy to the city’s laid-back summer atmosphere.
Bysommer takes place at venues including SALT Art & Music from June to August. Read more at bysommer.no.
