Start by the tourist office, and ride southwest along the quay. Continue past Odden Shopping Centre, and follow Bark Silas vei until you reach a roundabout. Continue on route 420. After approx. 1.6 km, cross under the E18, and continue straight ahead. At the roundabout at Bergemoen, go straight ahead following the signs for route 404 The lake Rore round 12 km Bakken. When you reach a junction with a sign towards Kryssen, cross the main road and continue on the narrow dirt road on your left. After 650 m, you will reach the foot and cycle path by lake Rore. Continue straight on for a few metres and then cross the road. Follow the signs for Rosholt. This is the old, disused Grimstad/Froland railway track (closed down in 1961), running alongside lake Rore – a fresh-water source for Grimstad and Arendal. After approx. 2 km, the dirt road will turn right, away from the lake. When you reach tarmac by the power station, turn right towards Fjære Church. The church (built around 1150) is well worth a visit. At the junction, follow the sign for Bie and continue down the hill. After approx. 750 m, use the underpass to cross the E18. Turn right, and after a few hundred metres turn right again. Follow route 420 back to the town centre.
Comments: An easy ride, ideal for families with children. The route follows either cycle paths or quiet roads, and has no steep climbs. If you meet horses along the lane by Rore lake, please stop and let them pass.
Don't forget that you can rent a bike at Grimstad Tourist Office.
