Durante más de 100 años se ubicó Akers Mekaniske Verkstad (el Taller Mecánico de Aker) en Aker Brygge. Desde 1986 el lugar se ha convertido a una zona popular de tiendas, restaurantes, etc. Los elegantes antiguos astilleros combinando arquitectura moderna y funcional confieren a la zona un estilo peculiar.

Durante los meses de verano, Aker Brygge, al ser una zona muy ambientada desde por la mañana hasta por la noche, se ha convertido en un lugar de encuentro. En la calle peatonal, a lo largo del muelle, hay multitudes de terrazas, con magníficas vistas sobre el muelle y el Fiordo de Oslo. ¡Los restaurantes y cafés de Aker Brygge tienen en total 2.500 asientos al aire libre!
