Arctic Coast Cycling is an exciting adventure along the stunning coastline between Tromsø and Lofoten. Breathe in the crisp sea air as you embark on this refreshing journey of mountains, islands, beaches, and quaint fishing villages.

Arctic Coast Cycling, in the Land of the Midnight Sun

The Arctic Coast cycling tour from Tromsø to Svolvær takes you through some of the most spectacular coastal landscapes in Northern Norway. This cycling holiday is ideal for those looking for an active and slightly challenging adventure, with dramatic mountains, fjords, islands, sandy beaches and traditional fishing villages along the way.

The tour starts in Tromsø, where you leave the lively city behind and cycle through beautiful and varied landscapes along the fjords. The route continues towards the coast and the idyllic island of Sommarøy, where the mountains meet the open sea.

After a short ferry crossing, you continue to Senja, Norway's second-largest island. The road along the western coast winds through some of Norway's most dramatic coastal scenery, with steep mountain peaks, narrow fjords and small fishing communities. Expect a mix of climbs and descents as you follow the road in and out of the fjords.

From Senja, a ferry takes you to Andøya, where the landscape changes once again. The island is known for its open marshlands, steep mountains and beautiful sandy beaches. Take your time to explore the island before continuing to Vesterålen and the town of Sortland.

On the second-to-last day, you cycle to Stokmarknes. From here, you can choose between continuing by bike towards Svolvær, or taking the Hurtigruten through the spectacular Raftsundet. The sea voyage offers a completely different perspective on the landscape and includes the opportunity to see the famous Trollfjorden.

The tour ends in Svolvær, the main town and gateway to the Lofoten Islands.

Parts of this tour follow the renowned Norwegian Scenic Routes Senja and Andøya, providing some of the most breathtaking views in Norway. You can also extend your adventure by combining this tour with our cycling trips in Lofoten or Vesterålen.
