Birdbox Sotra

When the wind picks up at sea, you can see white spray crashing over islets and skerries all the way west to Løno.
If you're arriving by kayak or boat, you can hike up to the Birdbox from the shoreline. There are lots of eagles in the area - especially sea eagles, but also golden eagles.

How to find Birdbox Sotra

Birdbox Sotra is located on top of Ørnhaugen on Langøy, on the western side of Sotra. It’s about a 20-minute drive from Straume, and around 35 minutes from Bergen.

To get to the Birdbox, follow a hilly trail through the farm, via the shoreline, and continue along the signs and red markers to the top. Some parts are steep. The walk takes about 15-20 minutes. Gore-Tex or hiking shoes are necessary. Since the Birdbox is compact, we recommend packing light.

Parking

Drive past the kindergarten and through the entire farm until you reach the last house on the road. Then drive through the gate to the left of the garage. (Please remember to close the gate behind you.) From there, follow the trail to the Birdbox.

Practical information

• The Birdbox doesn’t have running water. We provide about 2 liters of drinking water, but it’s a good idea to bring a little extra for cooking, coffee or tea.
• Fresh eggs from the farm are available if you'd like to boil or fry some for breakfast.
• If you'd like to take a dip in the sea and want to borrow a towel, just send us a message on Airbnb. We’ll make sure you get a towel before you head up. Some guests prefer to swim on the way up, others on the way back. Just bring the towel back when you leave.
• You’ll have access to a Birdbox of about 7 square meters, as well as a separate building with a composting toilet.
• Sheep and goats roam freely in the surrounding area. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed.

Cancellation policy

Full refund for cancellations made up to 5 days before arrival. Cancellations or changes are not accepted later than 5 days before check-in.

If extreme weather such as a full storm or hurricane is forecast, we strongly recommend rescheduling. In that case, you can choose a new date or get a full refund. For safety reasons, we also do not accept overnight guests if thunderstorms are expected, as the Birdbox is located alone on a mountain top.

Food

Tapas with bread for 2 people (NOK 600), provided by Porsvika 125, can be ordered by sending a message on Airbnb at least 4 days in advance.
