Experience an authentic and vibrant Norwegian village with charming wooden houses, historic buildings and monuments - all surrounded by magnificent nature.
The tour is scheduled to correspond with the express boat from Bergen and offers a unique experience that combines a beautiful boat journey with an informative guided walk in the scenic village of Vik.
Start by boat from Bergen – or meet in Vik:
The tour starts with the boat from Bergen at 08:00, and the crossing to Vik takes about 3.5 hours. The return time to Bergen is at 20:45. It is recommended to book early, as the route is popular during the summer.
If you are already staying in Vik, or prefer to travel there by other means than boat, you can book only the guided tour without the boat. Then your meeting point will be at the quay in Vik at 11:30. (It takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes to drive from Bergen to Vik)
Boat journey from Bergen:
The boat from Bergen departs from Strandkaiterminalen, just behind the Tourist Information office. The route goes north along the coast of Nordhordland and then into the Sognefjord.
Along the way you will pass:
• Alverstraumen
• Austrheim, Norway's westernmost mainland municipality
• Skjerjehamn in Gulen, where the boat makes a short stop
Further into the Sognefjord, the journey continues past Hyllestad and Høyanger before arriving in Vik municipality.
A little further into the municipality lies Vikøyri, where the guided tour takes place.
When the boat arrives at Vikøyri, you will disembark at Vik quay, where our guide will be waiting to welcome you and your travel companions.
Welcome to Vik
The guided tour starts in Vikøyri, where the guide will tell you about the Sognefjord and the historic shoreline settlement with its small houses and boathouses.
Here you will also enjoy a tasting of gamalost and raspberry juice from Vik.
The tour then continues up through the village to, among other places:
• Hopperstad stavkyrkje
• The burial mounds at Moahaugane
• Hove steinkyrkje
• Entrance to the churches is included.
By visiting both churches, you will experience the contrast between a stave church and a stone church, illustrating how early church building in Norway was influenced by both local traditions and European impulses. While the stave church served the local community and ordinary people, the stone church functioned as a status symbol for the elite.
On the way to the churches we will also visit the prehistoric burial mounds Mohaugane and Brødehaugane.
Your local guide will provide detailed information about historical and local attractions, the surrounding cultural landscape and life in Vik.
After the guided tour
After the guided tour you may choose to enjoy a two-course dinner at Blix Hotell, and you will also have time to explore the village on your own.
(The dinner is not included in the tour price.)
The return boat from Vik quay to Bergen departs at 17:10. Please arrive at the quay at 17:00.
This is a unique tour in a beautiful village and will give you a memorable experience for life.
