Experiences along the way:

1. Bjørkheim Cafe

We've now been on the road for just over half an hour, time for a short break. We stop at Bjørkheim Cafe, from where we have a fantastic view of the East Fjord. It is also possible to buy snacks/drinks and public toilets here. We stay here for 15 min.

2. Fossen bratte waterfall

Fossen Bratte means steep waterfall and that is a statement: The river Eikedalselva thunders down in a single drop over 79 meters. We also make a short photo stop at this waterfall and then drive a few hundred meters along the old road to get an impression of what it was like to drive on Norwegian roads in the good old days.

3. Steinsdalsfossen waterfall

The Steinsdalsfossen waterfall near Norheimsund is spectacular. You can walk along the back of it without getting wet. Steinsdalsfossen was formed when the river sought a new course in 1699 and has a height of approx. 50 m. A path leads behind the waterfall so that you can get between the rock face and the water without getting wet, it is one of the most visited waterfalls in Norway. The tourist information and public toilets are located directly at the car park. A short path over an old stone arch bridge then leads you to the waterfall. If you like, you can also stop off at a cosy café located directly behind the bridge and listen to the rushing of the stream. We stay here a little less than half an hour, the journey time to our next stop in Norheimsund is only about 10 minutes

4. Norheimsund

Discover the picturesque town of Norheimsund, beautiful located on the Hardangerfjord. Enjoy the picturesque views and charming ambience. In Norheimsund there are several restaurants and also a small shopping center with a bistro. We stay at this place for about 45 min, enough time for a short lunch break. The driver will show you where the bus will leave later.

5. Kvanndal

After a drive of about 40 minutes, always along the Hardangerfjord, we reach the ferry in Kvandal. The ferry departs at 2 p.m., the crossing takes only 20 minutes. There are bathrooms and a small kiosk on the ferry. From the upper deck you can make wonderful photos. It is a wonderful experience.

6. Utne

The ferry then docks in Utne. Step into a picturesque wonderland as you arrive in the enchanting village of Utne on the Hardangerfjord. Preserving its old-world charm with well-kept streets and traditional wooden houses, Utne offers a rare glimpse into a bygone era. Gaze upon the spectacular views of the fjord, marvel at the 300-year-old Utne Hotel, and immerse yourself in the peaceful ambiance of this secluded gem.

7. Hardangerfjord

The route from Utne to Jondal is a scenic drive along the Hardangerfjord on road 550. The distance between the two towns is about 36 km and the drive takes about 35 minutes. Along the way we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and admire the orchards that are characteristic of the region. This trip is highly recommended for anyone who wants to explore Norway's beautiful nature. We will make photo stops along the way as often as weather and time permit.

8. Herand

We take a break in the village of Herand and stop at a small marina, beautifully situated on the Hardanger Fjord. There is a self-service kiosk and also public washrooms. The onward journey to the ferry quay in Jondal is only 15 minutes.

9. Jondal ferry crossing

The ferry from Jondal to Tørvikbygd departs at 15:20 on the dot. We cross the main arm of the Hardangerfjord here. There are bathrooms and a self-service café on the ferry. You can also go to the upper car deck and take photos from there. The landscape is stunning. The crossing takes about 20 min.

10. Tørvikbygd (Pass By)

At 15:40 the ferry docks in Tørvikbygd. From here, we make our way directly to Bergen.
