Follow in the footsteps of the railway workers on a guided historical hike in Björkliden. The route follows the Rallarleden trail through mountain birch forest and into open mountain terrain.
Join a historical hike in Björkliden, where the landscape and railway history are closely connected. The tour first follows the easy-walking Rallarleden trail, which was used as a supply road during the construction of the Malmbanan railway more than 100 years ago. Along the way, the guide shares stories about life in the area around the turn of the 20th century and the people who worked along the railway.
The trail leads through lush mountain birch forest and past small streams before reaching Rallarkyrkogården. Many of the workers who endured the demanding conditions during the railway construction are buried here, making the site a meaningful encounter with an important part of the area’s history.
From the cemetery, the hike continues up into the mountains. If the weather is suitable, there will be a break along the way, and the source text also mentions the possibility of a swim in Kratersjön. The route then returns to Björkliden through open mountain terrain.
