The museum manages several thousand objects and holds a highly rich and valuable collection that, among other things, documents the local history of the region.

The museum features wonderful exhibitions showcasing the local culture and everyday life in the valley. Painted furniture, traditional costumes, drinking vessels, equipment for horses and hunting, and much more. As part of the museum, there is an extensive sculpture collection by the sculptor Sigurd Nome. Mjålandsstova is also part of the museum and is an open-air museum comprising a farmyard, main house, storehouse, and barn.

The main building contains Vest-Agder’s only preserved painted farmhouse living room, furnished with equipment and objects from the 1880s. The Årestova dates back to the 17th century.
