Merdøgaard museum

Merdøgaard is a small coastal farm with a skipper’s house from 1736, preserved as it stood with original interiors and furnishings from around 1800.

Next to the museum, there is a bathing beach and a small café.

Merdø is located in the archipelago, a 20-minute ferry ride from Pollen in Arendal. The island is an idyllic place, known for its history, magnificent nature, and traditional coastal culture. Merdø is well worth a visit, whether you want to experience nature, old coastal culture, or simply relax. Merdø was one of the most important outports in Southern Norway, with a customs station, pilot station, school, shop, and post office.

Merdøgaard Museum is a branch of KUBEN, Aust-Agder Museum and Archive.

Open every day in summer

Merdøgaard is open daily during the summer season, with several guided tours offered each day.

Entrance to the museum is only possible by participating in a guided tour. It is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance. If there are available spots on a tour, tickets are sold at the entrance.

Transport to Merdø

A scheduled ferry runs every half hour to Merdø during the summer, from Pollen in Arendal.

Offers for organized groups

Guided tours at Merdøgaard:

Guided tours are offered to groups of up to 15 people. It is also possible to arrange a tour outside of the museum’s opening hours from May to September.
