At this time of year in Svalbard, the sun’s far enough below the horizon to give us the unique opportunity to see both the starry skies and the northern lights all day round when the conditions allow.
After being picked up at your accommodation and a briefing with our guide we’ll head out onto our snowmobiles and drive off towards the east along the river delta in Adventdalen.
The route will lead us through Longyearbyens beautiful surroundings with stops on the way close to historical sites such as Longyearbyen’s old northern lights observatory, the town’s old airstrip, the mountain Operafjellet and the local landmark “Jernsenga”.
Having travelled well into Adventdalen to get away from the town’s lights we’ll turn off both our engines and lights. Our guide will then serve hot drinks and cookies that we’ll enjoy while looking for the northern lights in the polar night and listening to the guide’s stories before our drive back towards Longyearbyen’s warm lights again.

- Snowmobile and fuel
- A snowmobile suit, boots, mittens, helmet, goggles and balaclava

- Experienced guide with safety equipment
Recommended:
- We recommend you wear warm clothing
- On colder days an extra set of gloves as a liner to our mittens
- A mid-layer consisting of a sweater and pants in fleece or wool is advisable
- Down jackets, or other heavily insulated clothing, are not recommended beneath the snowmobile suit
- Our snowmobiles do not have a storage compartment, so a small backpack could be useful for cameras, extra jackets, and other small items
Essential:
- The participant is obliged to ensure that the driver’s license is valid in Svalbard and Jan Mayen, and to contact the responsible authorities in case of any questions. The guide will check each participants’ driver’s license and will refuse participation if necessary. No refunds will be given due to an invalid driver’s license.
- We do not recommend this tour if you are pregnant or have back problems
- We recommend warm clothing to wear under the winter suit such as wool underwear, wool socks, thick sweater and extra mittens
- A small backpack for extra clothing and other items
- The safety briefing is conducted in English, and all guests must be able to understand and communicate in English
- For safety reasons, the route may change due to weather, wind and snow conditions.
