Join us for a magical experience where the land meets the open sea. On an evening tour to the bird cliffs, you'll get up close to the puffin.
Our nature interpreter will provide you with insights into the unique lives of the seabirds, local history of the island, and the story of a genuine treasure from the shipwreck of Akerendam off Runde in 1725.
The tour starts at Runde Environmental Center with a screening of "The Silver of the Sea," a fascinating nature documentary about puffins and the enormous quantities of herring spawning at the coast of western Norway, just outside Runde. Before the tour in the exhibition at Runde Environmental Center, you'll be served a delightful fish soup with freshly baked bread. With full bellies and "The Silver of the Sea" in mind, our experienced nature interpreter will take you through the exhibition.
The trip to the bird cliffs takes approximately 45 minutes, and the highest point is around 200 meters above sea level. After a short and steep uphill climb, the terrain flattens out, and the rest of the hike proceeds gently uphill. On the way to the bird cliffs, there's plenty to see, and the nature interpreter will show you the best spots to ensure you get the most out of the journey.
At the bird cliffs, there will be ample time to enjoy the view, the sunset, and the puffins flying overhead. You're guaranteed to learn something new about Runde, the birds, and the surrounding sea.
