Set in the peaceful countryside of Munkeby, just outside Levanger, Andrea and Lars Bjarte run Høgaunet Farm – a small farm with big ambitions. Sustainability, animal welfare and locally produced food are at the heart of everything they do, guided by one simple philosophy: Good food starts with good soil.
At Høgaunet, the hens roam freely on pasture throughout the summer season. They are regularly moved across the fields, where they help improve soil quality by feeding on grass, worms and insects while enriching the land with natural nutrients. Together with grazing heifers, they form part of a natural cycle that creates fertile soil and high-quality produce. The result is delicious eggs from hens living active and natural lives.
Throughout the year, the farm produces a wide range of food and raw ingredients. Crops include vegetables, herbs, tomatoes, pumpkins, microgreens, cut flowers and plants. Microgreens are grown year-round and supplied to both the farm shop and restaurants throughout the region. Høgaunet has also supplied rabbit meat and edible flowers to Speilsalen at the Britannia Hotel.
The farm is home to its own on-site abattoir, where rabbits and poultry are processed with a strong focus on quality, animal welfare and sustainability. In addition, Høgaunet operates a registered production kitchen, where ingredients from the farm are transformed into products sold through the farm shop and via the REKO local food network.
A visit to Høgaunet Farm is about more than buying food – it is an experience. In the welcoming farm shop, you will find fresh produce from the farm alongside a carefully selected range of products from local producers in Levanger and the Innherred region. The selection includes eggs, seasonal vegetables, microgreens, herbs, rabbit meat, spice blends, meringues and a variety of other local delicacies.
The shop also features a floral department run by a qualified florist, together with an inspiring collection of home décor and gift items focusing on upcycling and reuse. Materials from the farm and the surrounding woodland are given a new lease of life through creative craftsmanship, and sustainability is reflected throughout the entire business – from food production to interior design.
We produce, among other things:
We want a visit to Høgaunet farm to inspire and fascinate. Inspire your own creativity, your own awareness of consumption and sustainability and inspire new tastes and ideas in your own kitchen. The fascination with everything that grows is also something we want to convey. And how resources you have around you can be used in perhaps completely different ways than what you have previously done. Our surroundings are often far richer than we are aware of.
Feel free to enjoy a cup of coffee in the shop, read a little in the literature we have there, chat with the hosts and be inspired by a working farm where genuine craftsmanship and excellent produce are at the heart of everything.
