Mush your own husky team on this unique dog sledding evening tour through snowy terrain, surrounded by mountain landscapes and scenic fjords.
This tour is conducted by Camp Tamok & Ice Dome.
Our huskies are eager to meet you and take you on a journey through the Arctic night! If you are lucky, you might have the magical Northern Lights dancing in the sky.
For this tour you will be picked up from the city center of Tromsø, from which you will be taken to our wilderness center in Camp Tamok (approx. ~90min drive).
Upon arrival at the camp, we will first provide warm winter clothes and other required gear for your dogsledding activity. Our guides will then give thorough safety instructions and a practical demonstration on how to steer your own sled. Once you are ready, you will embark on your journey: Two people will share each sled and a dog team. One is the “musher” (driver) while the other can sit back and enjoy the ride. (If your group includes children, please kindly note, that each child must be accompanied by an adult.)
You will get the chance to switch places midway during the 10 km dog sledding trail. Depending on snow conditions, we will spend up to 1,5 hours to complete it.
Even though this tour does not focus on hunting the Northern Lights, being outside on a dark winter evening might give a wonderful opportunity to witness the lights while going out on this adventure.
After the tour, you will be served a hot meal in a traditional Northern Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. After relaxing and warming up, you will board the bus to return to the city and reflect on a memorable adventure!
What to know in advance:
Minimum age is 7 years old. When making a booking for a child, please kindly always inform us of the age, as our guides will then be able to prepare accordingly.
Please kindly note that this tour is not focused on catching the Northern Lights, but it offers a great chance of witnessing this natural phenomenon.
Food and beverages:
After the tour, we will serve a complimentary traditional Norwegian soup/stew. The main ingredients are vegetables with meat or fish. We serve bread, coffee, tea and water with the meal.
Dietary requirements:
Vegetarian food can be provided if notice is given upon booking. Please advise us in advance of any food allergies or dietary restrictions: we will provide an alternative option. If no notice is given in advance an extra fee of 150 NOK will be charged.
Please bring: We recommend dressing in warm winter clothing and in layers so you can adjust your clothing to the weather. We recommend bringing a scarf in cold weather.
