Elfis Sjøstuer – An idyllic stay in rorbu cabins

Elfis Sjøstuer is beautifully situated by a small cove on the northern part of the island of Herøy. This is the place to come for a tranquil holiday in scenic surroundings. Guests enjoy a fine view that spans from the Seven Sisters mountains to the south and the peak called Dønnamannen to the north. Activities available include kayaking, fishing, hiking, cycling and island hopping.

Elfis offers rorbu (traditional fishermen’s cabins), as well as other cabins small and large. All are of high standard and are situated right near the shore, by Elfis Beach. The large cabin Skarven (meaning cormorant) is perfect for a large family or a group of friends who are looking forward to a bit of seclusion on their holiday. The cabin has three bedrooms with double beds, a living room, a fully-equipped kitchen including a dishwasher, and a washer and dryer.

The cabin Arvidbrygga, situated right on the shore, has one bedroom, an alcove with beds, a living room, a kitchen and bathroom. It has a total of six beds and holds a high standard. Another cabin, Ragnhildstua, is a cosy cabin with an annex. If both the cabin and its annex are used, you have a total of eight beds accessible.

Literally at the water’s edge is the charming Kaistua, with the sea right outside your door. Naustet 1 and 2 (meaning boathouse) are apartments with an open living room / kitchen, a family bunk and a sofa bed, for a total of three beds each. Havfrua and Huldra are simple cabins, furnished with a double bed, bench and table. All guests also have access to the showers and toilets in the nearby service facility.

The service facility also has a kitchen where you can prepare your breakfast, lunch or dinner, while enjoying the art of Elfi’s Gallery that decorate the walls. If you take a short walk into the grove of trees behind the old boathouse, you will discover a nice barbecue area. There is outdoor seating at several spots, and on the quay there is a designated place where angling guests can clean the fish they catch.

Boats with 10-horsepower outboard motors are available for rent.

Just 5 km from Elfis is the village centre of Herøy, with a grocery store and restaurant. Elfis is 8 km away from the trailhead up to Øksningen, and about 10 km to the island of Seløy, where Seløy Kystferie has its base. They offer kayak rental, deep-sea fishing trips and RIB sea rafting excursions. Adjacent to them is Augustbryggo, which is the place to go for heart dining.
