Fulehuk Lighthouse

Book

Fulehuk fyr is a lighthouse built in the early 1800's on the archipelago Rauer due southeast from Østre Bolæren. It was lit for the first time in 1821 and was closed as a lighthouse in 1989.

Nowadays the role of the lighthouse is played by a fully automatic beacon on a nearby island. The lighthouse itself is operated by the association of Fuglehuks friends, looked after by the foundation Fulehuk Fyr. Its been renovated by the association, and visitors can enjoy the stunning view from the top of the tower, as well as looking out onto the many ships that pass by every day. The sunset and sundown view is often described as magical.

Accommodation at Fulehuk fyr
The lighthouse offer accommodation up to 30 people in the lighthouse and Naustloftet, and is equipped with kitchen, bedrooms, living rooms and meeting rooms. Fresh water, electricity, indoor toilet and bathroom. The hosts will help you with accommodation and information.

At the cabin there are 8 beds that are rented out during the summer (June 1 - August 30 without Saturdays) They can be rented for up to three days at a time. They are split between two bedrooms that also double as the primary living rooms. The cabin is simmilar to a self serve cabin in the mountains, where you meet other people who are there at the same time as you.

Transport

Fjordtaxi will drive you out for a fixed fee.

By boat: The island which the lighthouse is built upon is quite samm and as a result it is very exposed to the elements. there is also a lack of good spots to anchor, though there are several spots where kayakks can easily dock. If one wishes to use ones own motor boat to visit then the hosts at the lighthouse must be contacted first. Any use of a private boat is done at the owners risk. Alternatively one can dock at the guest port at Eastern Bolæren for a fee and travel out to Fulehuk from there.

Safety
Young children must be looked after at all times as there are several cliffs and many slippery rocks to fall on. If you bring children it is
recommended that they wear life vest while outside. Remember that it is the law to bring life vests if one arrives in a private boat. The lighthouse
lies far out in the fjord and the weather can change at a moments notice.
