Jonestølen in Sauda

The trip to Jonestølen is a cosy outing for the whole family. Jonestølen has been restored by Friluftsrådet Vest and is open all year round. Here you can stay overnight for free and have great access to wonderful, magnificent scenery and good fishing lakes.

The hike to the cosy Jonestølen in Sauda is a moderately demanding hike of around three kilometres.

How do I get to Jonestølen?

You turn off fv. 520, where there are signs for Hustveit, and drive 500 metres to the car park.

When is the season for Jonestølen?

The season for the hike to Jonestølen is from May to October.

Tour description

The tour goes past the museum buildings at Jonegarden. Continue 200 metres past the barn and follow the signs to the left. From there, there is a good climb on an old tractor road, which eventually becomes a path. You will then pass the outdoor barn, Eikelauvet, which was restored in 2014. Cross the bridge over the outlet of Vårstølvatnet lake. You'll soon see the beautiful Gofarskjeggfossen waterfall on your left. Continue up Øykjakleiva, which is a little steep, and continue in easy terrain along the river towards Jonestølen.
