Jotunheimstien – Hadeland, Vestre Toten, and Gjøvik
About Jotunheimstien
Jotunheimstien stretches from Oslo city centre, through Marka, across the mountain, and all the way to Gjendesheim in Jotunheimen – a great option for those looking for a long trip, and an ideal route to split into legs.
Completing this trip is certainly an achievement held in high esteem among outdoor enthusiasts, and at the end of Jotunheimstien you are rewarded with the spectacular Jotunheimen.
The Norwegian Trekking Association, represented by DNT Oslo og Omegn, DNT Hadeland, DNT Lillehammer, and DNT Gjøvik og Omegn, has done its part to ensure that the trip is an enriching experience.
You follow in the footsteps of Henrik Wergeland and Phillipe Pope, who in 1832 walked from the capital (at the time Christiania), past Kvitningen and up along Mjøsa, and then towards Huldreheimen and Gjendesheim in Jotunheimen.
The entire route covers 12 municipalities and three counties, and is approx. 380 km long.
Accommodation along the way is in 15 different cabins and two woodland shelters.
Estimated time for the entire trip is 17 days.
Legs 3 and 4 run through the Visit East Norway region, through the beautiful municipalities of Hadeland, Lunner and Gran, and then through Vestre Toten and Gjøvik.
This is a brief overview of these legs. A more detailed description of each section and the route as whole is available at the ut.no website
