Herøy

Skolo - an architectural gem in Herøy

Book

The beautiful renovation of Seløy’s old school has been described in an article in The Norwegian Review of Architecture. Today, travellers can find accommodation here, drink quality coffee, eat pizza, browse books and buy artworks in the shop – and enjoy the panoramic view of The Seven Sisters mountains

The school renovation was important for the local community. Today Skolo serves as a cultural centre, pizzeria, coffee bar, bookstore and gallery for local artists. Skolo also offers accommodation, and as a guest you are making an important contribution to the community.

Skolo is friendly and has a very special ambience. It is family-run and open year round. The architectural firm Agraff architects designed new solutions while preserving the best of the old school. The school desks have been cleared away and replaced with 30 comfortable beds.

Skolo offers overnight guests rooms and also has three well-equipped apartments. Each interior shows careful attention to detail – modern new details as well as the old details that have been carefully preserved. The bathrooms are brand new. Skolo’s apartments are situated on the top two floors. On the ground floor, the gymnasium has been transformed into a café, pizzeria and shop. The school’s woodworking shop is now a modern kitchen that is used to make, amongst other thing, Skolo’s popular Italian pizza.

The surrounding school grounds are spacious and include a new pavilion, from which you can savour the magnificent view of Dønnamannen and The Seven Sisters mountain range.

Skolo is situated in the middle of Seløy, a small island that encapsulates much of what Helgeland has to offer. You can spend many days here and find new things to do when you awaken each morning, or simply enjoy the tranquillity of the scenic island. Within walking distance you will find Seløy Kystferie, where you can rent a kayak or join a RIB sea-rafting safari amongst the nearby islands and islets. You also have excellent cycling and hiking opportunities; bridges connect Seløy to Herøy and Dønna.
