Exhibitions at Sunnhordlandstunet

The Art of the Common Man (Den vesle manns kunst)

This exhibition showcases mass-produced printed materials that were an important part of everyday culture in industrial society from the early 1900s onward.

Over the past 40 years, author Einar Økland has built up a large collection of printed materials within popular culture, children's culture, graphic design, and trivial art. The collection has grown so large that it has been named the "Økland Collections." These collections are vast and, taken together, provide a portrait of written and visual culture in modern Norway during the 20th century. The exhibition can be visited until August 17, 2025.

It started with the herring (Det starta med silda)

This exhibition illustrates the significance of the fishing industry for the development of industry and maritime business in Sunnhordland from 1900 to the present, with a particular focus on herring.

Textile exhibition

In the textile exhibition at Sunnhordlandstunet, you will find looms, traditional folk costumes, decorative breast cloths, and other bunad (national costume) accessories from Sunnhordland. Additionally, an upright loom with a warp is on display, along with many beautiful wooden warp-weighted looms. Here, you can try your hand at both band weaving and wool carding.
