Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum

Book

Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum is an open-air museum in picturesque surroundings around the ruins of King Sverre's Castle, Norway’s oldest medieval castle.

In the urban section, you will experience images of life and exciting interiors from Trondheim’s fascinating history, from the 18th century to the present day. You can also experience the shady side of Trondheim by visiting the knackery, ‘Nattmannshuset’, the most despised building in the city in the 18th century!
The rural section enables you to stroll from farmyard to farmyard throughout Trøndelag, with the medieval Haltdalen stave church as the gem of the collection.

A replica of the Detli House (Detlistua) from Oppdal has been built at Disney World in Florida. The walk to the top of the ruins of King Sverre’s once monumental medieval castle offers wonderful views of Trondheim and, not least, an insight into an exciting slice of the city’s history.

Live storytelling, theatrical performances, activities in the Birkebeiner camp and close-up contact with the animals makes Sverresborg an historic oasis for young and old alike. The open-air museum hosts a series of exciting events throughout the year, including the annual Christmas event on the first weekend of Advent and the museum’s large Mid Summer’s event.

And; f your name is Sverre, you can enter the museum free of charge!
