The family-friendly museum in the heart of Kongsberg!

Founded in 1924, Lågdalsmuseet is a heritage museum for Kongsberg, Sandvær and Numedal. It is located in the fields of old Glitre Gård, just five minutes' walk from the town centre.

In the summer season, traditional farm animal breeds graze in the fields. The museum is home to Norway's only preserved "tower barn", an important monument from the time the town's mining families also farmed the land.

Glitre Gård is Kongserg's best preserved residence for a mining official, built in 1811 for H.W. Tillich, administrator at the Kongsberg silver mine. Today the building is decorated with elegant interiors left by many of Kongsberg's historical residents.

Kongsberggata is small, cosy street lined with old buildings, including a miner's cottage, an arms worker's house, a school and a shop filled with goods. The Nummedalstua house has several rose-painted lounges and a court room where three generations of sheriffs asserted their power in Uvdal in the 18th century.

The main building houses a gallery and various exhibitions, including folk art and a Rolf Hansen pottery exhibition. You can also see the workshops used by some of Kongsberg's tradesmen and Norway's only specialist museum for spectacles and optical equipment.

There are activities, events and guided tours at the museum all year round.

18 June – 14 Aug, Mon–Fri 10.00–16.00 (Guided tours 11.00, 12.00, 14.00 and 15.00)
Closed Mondays from week 41 to week 20.

Guided tours of the open air museum available from May to September. Guided tours of the main building available all year by prior appointment.
