Villa Haugen is located at 67,8° N and 14,8° E on an island in Steigen - Nordland – at the edge of the ocean with fantastic views of Lofoten and Vesterålen. Grøtøy used to be one of the most important and influential trading posts in Norway for more than 200 years and our main house was part of this. One can surely say that it is a place of great experiences and big contracts – historical as well as nature wise.
Steigen is probably the less known area in the county of Nordland – often referred to as the “Terra Incognito”. This means it is an area with few tourists and a nature that can offer its own archipelago, step mountains, white sandy beaches, a small glacier – everything within an arm’s length. It is like Norway in a miniature. Here guests can still find unspoiled nature, experience tranquillity while watching the northern lights dancing in the sky or the midnight sun passing by – without any disturbance.
Villa Haugen can accommodate 16 guests, whereof 10 guests in 5 bedrooms in the main house as well as 6 guests in our 3 new luxury cabins. All rooms/cabins have a sea view and a view of the entire Lofoten mountains. The bedroom in the main house is furnished in an old and historical style, while the cabins have a more contemporary and modern style. All bedrooms and cabins have their own bathroom.
The new luxury cabins design is based on a traditional Norwegian fish rack. They consist of a living room / bedroom (for 2 persons) as well as a bathroom and its own terrace. The main window is 400x160 cm. The colour palette in each cabin is different – but they are all based on the colour of an arctic cod. All cabins are facing west – which means you can watch the Lofoten mountains as well as the norther lights or midnight sun from the bed.
Villa Haugen has its own restaurant where we serve 4, 5 and 7 course dinners. Our menus are based on local produce – and we even have our own fish rack where arctic cod is preserved and transformed into local delicacies. We also arrange for seafood tables and barbecue evenings in our boathouse. Villa Haugen has its own wine cellar and bar. When groups, families or company’s rents the entire hotel, other food option can be arranged on requests.
At Villa Haugen we can facilitate a range of activities – like wine tasting, cooking classes, fishing trips, mountain hikes, kayaking, sea eagle safari, visit to a nearby cave, historical walks, rib rental, etc. We also have our own sauna and hot tub. Some of the acyivities activities are provided by us – other by our cooperation partners. All booking of activities will be taken care by us (one stop shop only).
