With E-bike along the North Sea Cycle Route

Discover Jæren - high sky, wide horizon and endless sea. This coastal landscape is unique and completely unlike anything you will find in other parts of Norway. Discover the daily life, the people and the grazing livestock. The bicycle route 'Jærruta' runs in the area south of Stavanger, Norway's Oil Capital. The landscape is characterized by being Norway's most active agricultural area with large fields, characteristic rock gardens, heather and grasslands. When biking through these landscapes, you are close to the North Sea and a stroll down to the beaches on Jæren is a great experience regardless of the weather. Feel free to stop by some of the museums and the well-preserved lighthouses along the route. The trip is not particularly demanding, but the wind and the hilly trails can be a challenge, so we have included the renting of an electric bike.
We have put in extra days to discover more of the area, visit Stavanger, take a walk to the famous Pulpit Rock or Trollpikken (the Troll's Dick), or bike further south on the North Sea Route.

Scenic Route Jæren:
Parts of road 507 and road 44. To some extent this road differs from many of the other tourist routes, it’s quite simply a regular all-purpose road cutting through the cultural landscape, often framed by old stone fences that are kind of monuments of a time that no longer exists.

The Old Main Road of Western Norway:
7.2 km of gravel road between Ogna and Hellvik. The construction of the road was started in 1789 and finished in 1840. The road runs in an exciting and hilly mountain landscape with some steep slopes. The road is part of the North Sea Cycling Route and the Coastal Pilgrimage Trail. You find information boards along the road.

The Old Jærbanen Railway:
Not far from where the Old Main Road of Western Norway ends, the Old Jæren Railroad begins. The road mostly follows the old railway that is converted into a hiking/cycling route. The road meanders between and through boulders and rocks and reveals the impressive old stonework.
