Via Ferrata climbing offers a spectacular and safe way of experiencing Romsdalen from above. Using a network of steel cables, ladders and aids, now almost everybody can enjoy climbing and the spectacular view it brings. You don't need previous climbing experience to participate on a guided trip!
The West wall is a real challenge. This is the trip if you seek excitement, like to challenge yourself, have a physical condition above the average and can move in steep terrain.
Romsdalsstigen Via Ferrata consists of two adventurous climbing trails, the Intro wall and the West wall. Both will fill you with adrenaline, a sense of achievement, outstanding photo opportunities and magnificent views of the monumental Romsdalsfjellene mountains.
Via ferrata is Italian for "iron ladder" and are tailored climbing trails. While you climb, you fasten carabiners from a tailored climbing harness to steel wires, suspension bridges and iron steps mounted into the rock wall. In addition to natural foothold, planks and steps have been mounted for your convenience.
The West wall – not for sissies The West wall is a longer, more challenging hike of 5-6 hours up to the mountain summit Nesaksla. The reward is a breathtaking panoramic view, as well as a rush of adrenaline and the sweet sense of achievement.
During the hike, you will climb several airy sections and cross suspension bridges. The West wall has been classified with a difficulty degree D in the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation Via ferrata scale.
The trip requires that you are in a good physical condition and can manage to move in steep terrain. The minimum age for the West wall is 16 years, and the safety equipment requires the participant to weigh at least 40 kg with a maximum of 120 kg.
Norsk Tindesenter recommends walking along with skilled via-ferrata guides, but you can also borrow equipment and go on your own. What you need is a helmet and a climbing harness including fall protection with two via-ferrata-approved carabiners, in addition to good hiking boots and proper clothing.
The return trip from the summit follows the tailored path Romsdalstrappa, with a break at the popular viewpoint platform Rampestreken before returning to the starting point Norsk Tindesenter.
