BalkanFest at Antikvariatet; Jovan invites!
The festival's artistic director, Jovan Pavlovic aka Johan Paulsen, Javan Pavloc and not least Javlan, (who here shows how great an accordion he is), opens BalkanFest 2026 by inviting one of his heroes; Marius Preda!
The world star, cimbalom player, storyteller and multi-instrumentalist Marius "The tiger of Cimbalom" Preda!
Born in Bucharest Romania, into a family full of musicians, he quickly found the cimbalom as his instrument.
The goal was clear; he wanted to be the first musician to turn the cimbalom into a jazz instrument. He has done it!
Marius also plays the violin, trumpet, piano and accordion
Graduated from the University of The Hague with honors; where he got his nickname, he has later played with names such as; Arturo Sandoval, Mike Stern, Gheorghe Zamfir, Didier Lockwood, Rosenberg Trio etc.
As a true multi-instrumentalist, he is not limited by genre or style – in his music we find a vibrant mix of traditional Romanian music, jazz and improvisation, as well as modern and experimental expressions.
This will be wild madness and a world-class collaboration as well as the opening of BalkanFest-26
Note: There will be up to several accordions in use at this concert.🥸
