As an extreme metal festival, Beyond the Gates arose from the ashes of the cult Hole in the Sky festival in 2013. The Inferno Metal Festival has gathered metal fans from all over the world for a music festival in the heart of the Black Metal capital since 2001. But of course also to good entertainment, great experiences and life in the city. Maijazz has contributed to the region with artists such as Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheny Group, Herbie Hancock, E.S.T., Joe Zawinul and Youssou N'dour, to name but a few of those who have visited Stavanger and Maijazz. Maijazz is constantly evolving Maijazz wants to be a driving force in the cultural development of the region. In recent years, the established collaboration with the University of Stavanger has really taken off. The Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble is a cornerstone of the festival. The series ‘Tett på en Helt’ (Close to a Hero, part of the Blå Trå series at Stavanger Jazzforum) has become one of the most popular events among students at the Institute of Music and Dance/UiS. Nattjazz (Nightjazz) is the longest jazz festival in Northern Europe and is arranged annually in late May / early June in Bergen. The main festival area is an old sardine factory, USF Verftet (United Sardines Factory), which now contains several concert venues plus exhibitions, theatre, cinema and artist studios.
