Los fascinantes colores que parpadean en el cielo del Ártico son un espectáculo único. Obsérvalo desde la ladera de una montaña o desde la orilla del mar, a través del techo de cristal de un cálido y cómodo iglú, o consigue un asiento en primera fila en la cubierta de un barco Hurtigruten mientras navegas bajo el conocido como el óvalo de las auroras. Y seguro que has traído tu cámara de fotos.
Aprende a hacer fotos de la aurora boreal
Cuando el espectáculo de luces ilumina el cielo, merece la pena captar en imágenes ese momento inolvidable. Christian Hoiberg, fotógrafo de 27 años, cuenta con una enorme experiencia a la hora de inmortalizar la belleza fugaz de las auroras boreales.
"Fotografiar la aurora no es tan difícil cuando se tienen los conocimientos básicos para usar la cámara. De hecho, lo más difícil es llegar a verla, ya que puede llegar a ser bastante vacilona", afirma Christian.
Echa un vistazo aquí abajo a su improvisada guía para fotografía la aurora boreal.
1. Aléjate de las luces
Por supuesto nos referimos a las luces de la ciudad, y no a las de la aurora. Tus fotos no serán muy buenas si no te alejas lo suficiente de las luces urbanas. Encuentra un buen lugar lejos del centro de la ciudad. Las posibilidades de obtener la imagen perfecta para Instagram aumentarán considerablemente si vas acompañado de un guía local que conozca los mejores puntos para ver las auroras. En cualquier caso, no utilices el flash cuando vayas a hacer las fotos.
2. Revisa la previsión del tiempo y de auroras
Que el cielo esté despejado es un requisito importante para hacer las mejores fotos de la aurora boreal. Y tener una idea de cuándo las mágicas luces saldrán a recorrer el cielo es también fundamental. Así que acuérdate de revisar la previsión del tiempo y el pronóstico de auroras. Seguro que tu plan no pasa por salir a cazar auroras, sentarte frente a una hoguera con una taza de café caliente, y que justo entonces empiece a llover. Contar con un guía siempre ayuda, ya que estos tienen conocimiento de primera mano sobre las condiciones climatológicas locales.
Y antes de salir no olvides instalar la app NorwayLights en tu iPhone, Android o Windows, para poder consultar sobre la marcha la previsión de auroras.
3. Estás en el Ártico, así que abrígate bien
Los inviernos son muy fríos en el Norte de Noruega. Las manos temblorosas y los dedos congelados no ayudan a hacer buenas fotos, así que protégete del frío con varias capas de ropa. No importa si acabas pareciendo el muñeco de Michelin: esta vez el protagonista de la foto no serás tú, sino la aurora.
¡Pst, pst! Si vienes en otoño, puede que las temperaturas sean un poco más agradables.
4. Mantén la cámara firme
Puede que te parezcan artísticas las imágenes que salen borrosas, pero probablemente esto no es lo que quieres conseguir. Usa un trípode para evitar que tus fotos salgan como si las hubieras hecho después de beber unas cuantas cervezas. Si no tienes un trípode, busca una gran roca o usa el capó de un coche para mantener la cámara lo más estable como sea posible. Un disparador remoto o un disparador de cable también pueden ser útiles.
5. Utiliza los ajustes manuales de la cámara
En la mayoría de los casos, los ajustes automáticos hacen la vida más fácil. Sin embargo, no son de mucha ayuda en condiciones de poca luz. Es posible que las auroras no lleguen a verse en tu foto.
La configuración correcta de la cámara para fotografiar las auroras boreales depende del modelo y de las condiciones exactas en las que te encuentres. Pero los ajustes manuales suelen dar mejores resultados. Te permiten ajustar el enfoque, la velocidad de obturación, la ISO y la apertura. Familiarízate con los ajustes de tu cámara antes de tu viaje para aumentar tus posibilidades de conseguir la imagen perfecta de la aurora. 6. Cómo fotografiar las auroras boreales con el móvil
Los teléfonos iPhone y Android modernos pueden hacer fotos sorprendentemente buenas de las auroras boreales con el modo nocturno o los ajustes manuales. Ajusta la exposición y el ISO para que entre más luz. Mantén el teléfono estable sobre un trípode o una superficie sólida para evitar que las imágenes salgan borrosas. Para obtener los mejores resultados, apaga el flash y evita utilizar el zoom digital.
¡Y no te olvides de llevar una batería portátil! Las baterías se agotan mucho más rápido con el frío. Para ahorrar energía, también es útil cerrar el resto de aplicaciones y guardar el móvil en el bolsillo para que se mantenga caliente mientras no lo utilizas.
Si tu teléfono lo permite, hacer las fotos en formato RAW te dará mayor flexibilidad a la hora de editarlas después.
Para fotografiar las auroras boreales con tu teléfono móvil, las condiciones ideales son una luna muy brillante y una aurora con colores tan vivos que te deje boquiabierto.
Las mejores condiciones para fotografiar las auroras boreales con un móvil se dan cuando hay luna llena y, a veces, tener un edificio o un sujeto bien iluminado en primer plano ayuda a crear una foto realmente espectacular.
El mejor momento y lugar para captar la aurora
La naturaleza pone las luces y tú tienes la cámara, así que ¡manos a la obra! El mejor lugar para presenciar la magia de las auroras boreales es la zona al norte del Círculo Polar Ártico. Y las mejores épocas son desde bien entrado el otoño hasta comienzos de la primavera (más o menos de septiembre a finales de marzo).
