Cómo organizar un viaje en bicicleta por Noruega

¿Qué necesito meter en la mochila para un viaje en bicicleta? ¿Cómo organizar unas vacaciones sobre dos ruedas? El experto Øyvind Wold comparte sus mejores consejos.

Embárcate en una auténtica aventura y acércate todavía más a la naturaleza noruega. Fiordos. Montañas. Preciosos pueblos costeros. Kilómetros y kilómetros de pistas de gravilla a través de paisajes prácticamente vírgenes te esperan, sobre todo en el Este de Noruega.

Pero tanto si eliges una de las carreteras más hermosas de Noruega como si optas por un pintoresco recorrido para tu viaje en bicicleta, necesitas algo de planificación. Tenerlo todo bien atado. Y si hay alguien que sabe de ello, ese es Øyvind Wold, que trabaja para la Asociación de ciclistas noruegos y ha recorrido todo el país sobre su bici. Además, ha escrito varios libros sobre viajes en bicicleta por Noruega.

He aquí sus mejores trucos y consejos para preparar tu viaje en bicicleta por Noruega.

Diversión para todos

Noruega es un auténtico paraíso para los aficionados a la bicicleta. Aquí podrás hacer tanto ciclismo en carretera a través de frondosos valles y zigzagueantes rutas junto a los fiordos, como montar en bicicleta de montaña. ¡Y no necesitas estar tan en forma como los participantes en el Tour de Francia!

“No, claro que no. Varias de las rutas ciclistas nacionales son aptas para todo el mundo, incluidos los que no tienen mucha experiencia con la bici. Dos ejemplos son la ruta de la Costa entre Horten y Tønsberg, o la de Numedal”, explica Øyvind.

Las rutas ciclistas más populares también están indicadas para todo tipo de gente.

“Si buscas un recorrido fácil, haz la famosa Rallarvegen al revés. Coge el tren hasta Finse y sigue la carretera en dirección este hacia Haugastøl. Son unos 30 kilómetros por un terreno casi todo llano y alguna colina de poca elevación”.

Muchos lugares famosos para montar en bici en Noruega cuentan con alquiler de bicicletas y bicis eléctricas, lo que hace que estas rutas sean mucho más asequibles. Eso sí: no olvides reservar con antelación.

La base de operaciones perfecta

“Si no tienes mucha experiencia y tienes acerca de las distancias y el equipo necesario, es buena idea establecer un lugar como base de operaciones y salir en bici cada día desde allí. Esta base puede ser un hotel o una cabaña”.

Wold cree que esta es una opción inteligente, ya que para cada excursión no necesitarás cargar con mucho equipaje. Y es también una gran forma de viajar en grupo.

“Cuando cuentas con una base, el grupo se puede dividir. Algunos pueden atreverse con un viaje largo, mientras que otros saldrán a hacer una ruta más asequible. Y luego todos vuelven a juntarse al final del día”.

Si te apetece pasar un par de noches al aire libre en plena naturaleza, también puedes traer una tienda de campaña, o una hamaca. Desplázate en bici hasta una zona de acampada, pasa la noche allí, y vuelve a la base el día siguiente.

¿Quién es Øyvind Wold?

Wold es un experimentado deportista que trabaja para la Asociación de ciclistas noruegos. Es autor de varios libros y colabora también, como escritor y fotógrafo, con varias revistas noruegas especializadas en ciclismo y actividades al aire libre.

Aventuras en familia

Salir de viaje en bicicleta con los más pequeños es algo fantástico. Y con un poco de planificación, todo el grupo se lo pasará en grande.

“Elige una zona que te resulte más o menos conocida. Así siempre sabrás dónde están las carreteras más bonitas, las mejores playas y los mejores campings”, afirma el experto.

De esa forma, también te será más fácil encontrar lugares que motiven a los niños, como granjas, algún lago para pescar, o algún sitio en el que probar deliciosa comida. Para dar emoción al viaje, podéis hacer alguna actividad en plena naturaleza para toda la familia, como remo, senderismo por un glaciar o ascensión por via ferrata, entre otras.

Y asegúrate de contar con los más pequeños a la hora de planificar.

“Si les hablas del viaje antes de salir, se harán a la idea y participarán más”.

Por último, ten siempre un plan B. Aunque los mayores deberían ser capaces de solucionar cualquier problema menor que surja con la bicicleta, hay que estar preparado por si algo no se puede arreglar. O por si hace mal tiempo.

Otra opción son las llamadas microaventuras.

“Ocurre a menudo que nos emocionamos con los destinos más exóticos, pero salir de excursión al lago o bosque más cercanos puede resultar igual de divertido”.

Varios días sobre la bici

En Noruega, hacer un viaje largo en bicicleta te garantiza tanto paisajes espectaculares como los del Norte de Noruega o la Noruega de los fiordos, como famosas rutas de montaña, como el tour de Dovre o la Mjølkevegen. Pero, ¿qué distancia total debemos considerar y cuántos kilómetros podremos pedalear cada día?

“Lo más importante al organizar un viaje largo es conocer la bicicleta y a ti mismo. Esto te garantiza que llevarás el equipo necesario y te permite calcular la distancia de cada etapa”.

También es buena idea examinar a fondo la ruta y la elevación del terreno a lo largo de la misma, ya que esto afectará tanto a la velocidad como a la distancia que podrás recorrer cada día.

Wold cree una persona que no esté acostumbrada a montar en bici, aunque haga ejercicio frecuentemente, puede aspirar a recorrer entre 30 y 45 kilómetros en un día. Pero no más. Aquellos que si estén en buena forma física podrán hacer entre 70 y 90 kilómetros.

“Pero ten en cuenta que esto es solo una estimación. La distancia que serás capaz de recorrer en un día depende mucho del terreno, de la cantidad de repechos que incluya la ruta y de su elevación, del viento y de si llevas mucho equipaje”.

Google Maps puede ser de gran ayuda a la hora de prepararte para el viaje, ya que te sugiere por dónde ir y te da información de distancias, altitud y tiempo necesario aproximado.

Seguridad sobre dos ruedas

Si vas en bicicleta por Noruega, estás sujeto a las mismas normas de circulación que los coches y otros vehículos:
• Circula por la derecha
• Cede el paso en las incorporaciones desde la derecha
• No cojas la bici si has bebido.

Puedes ir en bicicleta por la acera, pero reduce tu velocidad.

No puedes circular por autovías y autopistas.

Solo los niños de menos de 10 años se pueden llevar como pasajeros en la bici.

Usa siempre el casco cuando vayas en bicicleta. Un chaleco reflectante también puede ser una buena idea, sobre todo en carreteras con mucho tráfico.

Los consejos de Øyvind Wold sobre distancias y etapas

Personas que practican deporte a menudo, pero que no suelen montar en bicicleta: 30-45 kilómetros.

Personas que están en forma y buscan ponerse a prueba: 70-90 kilómetros.

Niños de 7 a 9 años: 15-20 kilómetros.

Niños de 10 a 12 años: 20-30 kilómetros.

Recuerda que esto es solo una estimación. La distancia que cada persona es capaz de recorrer en un día depende mucho de la carretera, la elevación del terreno, el viento y el peso del equipaje.

Qué llevar para un viaje en bici

Además de las cosas más evidentes, como jabón, artículos de aseo y algún recambio para la bici, hay otras que siempre deberías llevar en un viaje en bicicleta, según Wold.

“Si tenemos en cuenta un viaje en familia, la mayor prioridad es llevar suficiente agua y comida. También es bueno contar con ropa impermeable de alta calidad, ya que si nos mojamos y pasamos frío, la experiencia no será demasiado buena”.

Otras cosas que llevar en tu viaje en bicicleta son:

  • un mapa de los de toda la vida (ya que estos no necesitan batería)
  • crema solar
  • tiritas y gel para tratar heridas, repelente de mosquitos
  • un power bank
  • papel higiénico
  • café (por supuesto)
  • un casco
  • guantes para hacer ciclismo (protegen las palmas de tus manos si te caes de la bicicleta)
  • gafas para hacer ciclismo (protegen tus ojos de partículas de polvo, del viento, de insectos y parcialmente también de la lluvia)
  • prendas de lana fina (ya que puedes usarlas varios días antes de que empiecen a oler a sudado)
  • ropa de hacer deporte fina
  • una tienda de campaña y un saco de dormir de poco peso
  • cubiertos y un camping-gas

Algo también fundamental son las herramientas para arreglar la bici en caso necesario, sobre todo si el viaje es más o menos largo. Un juego de parches para pinchazos y una cámara de aire de repuesto no pueden faltar. Pero eso no es todo.

“Trae también contigo una almohada hinchable. Puede mejorar considerablemente la calidad del sueño, algo fundamental en viajes de este tipo”.

La lista incluye algunas otras cosas, por lo que quizás estés pensando ¡para cargar con todo eso necesitaría un coche!

“Puedes añadir un cesto a tu bici y llevar parte de tu equipaje en él, además de usar un remolque de carga. Lo que sí deberías evitar es llevarlo todo en tu mochila”.

Pero no siempre es tan fácil. Es muy poco frecuente que los que hacen este tipo de viaje por primera vez lleven todo lo necesario y nada más, según Wold. “Es cuestión de intentarlo y aprender de los errores. Así, sabrás realmente lo que era necesario y lo que no hacía falta que llevases. Y en el siguiente viaje pondrás en práctica lo aprendido. ¡Es parte de la gracia de salir de expedición!”

Clima y temperaturas

Al organizar un viaje en bicicleta por Noruega es importante tener en cuenta que las temperaturas y el clima varían mucho de región a región.

En el Sur de Noruega, el Este de Noruega y la Noruega de los fiordos, el tiempo primaveral suele llegar en abril o a principios de mayo. Desde ese momento y hasta bien entrado octubre es la mejor época para montar en bicicleta. Las temperaturas oscilan desde unos frescos 10-15 grados, al calor de los 25 o 30.

En el Norte de Noruega, por encima del Círculo polar ártico, puede que no veas la llegada de la primavera hasta finales de mayo o comienzos de junio. Sin embargo, para entonces ya habrán comenzado los largos y brillantes días del verano, así que no te preocupará demasiado que se retrase.   Allí puedes pedalear bajo el sol de medianoche hasta finales de julio. La temporada de ciclismo en esta zona de Noruega concluye hacia septiembre u octubre.

Ten en cuenta que en el Norte de Noruega y otras zonas montañosas normalmente hace más frío que en otras partes del país. Así que no olvides traer suficiente ropa de abrigo.

Bicicletas en el transporte público

Puedes viajar con tu bici en los servicios de transporte público de Noruega, como trenes, ferries y otros. Es necesario pagar una pequeña cantidad adicional, normalmente equivalente a lo que pagan los menores por un viaje.

Es mejor que evites la hora punta, ya que si el tren va muy lleno tendrás que esperar al siguiente (ya que no habrá sitio suficiente para tu bicicleta).

También puedes transportar tu bici en aviones como equipaje especial. No obstante, esto no se aplica a bicis eléctricas.
