¿Cómo es el clima?

El invierno en el Ártico puede empezar en octubre y durar hasta casi finales de abril.

Como las islas Lofoten están tan alejadas de las aguas cálidas de la corriente del Golfo, su clima es costero y mucho más cálido que el de otros destinos árticos. Las temperaturas suelen oscilar entre los -5 y los 3 grados.

La época de lluvia y nieve va de octubre a diciembre. Las montañas suelen estar cubiertas de nieve, pero en las zonas bajas no nieva. Además, ¡en invierno se ven un montón de arcoíris!

El invierno «de verdad» suele empezar en enero y durar hasta mediados de marzo. Durante estos meses, lo normal es que nieve más en todas partes, incluso en las zonas bajas. Entre febrero y abril, la cantidad de luz natural aumenta cada día y las temperaturas en un día tranquilo y soleado pueden ser bastante agradables.

Dado que el archipiélago se encuentra en alta mar, a menudo se producen tormentas que pueden afectar al tráfico. Por eso, conviene prever retrasos y contratar un buen seguro de viaje.

¿Cómo de oscuros suelen ser los días?

Los días empiezan a acortarse en octubre, pero en las Lofoten el mørketid (es decir, «la estación oscura») solo dura entre cinco y seis semanas, de principios de diciembre a principios de enero.

No obstante, no está oscuro todo el día. Puede haber varias horas de luz, sobre todo en días despejados. El sol nunca desaparece del todo, solo se pone y se cierne sobre el horizonte. De esta forma, ilumina las nubes desde abajo y produce los colores más espectaculares que jamás hayas visto. Disfruta cada día de la preciosa «hora azul» justo antes del anochecer y del amanecer.

Aunque las horas de luz son escasas desde mediados de noviembre hasta finales de enero, también es un periodo muy agradable y tranquilo, con muchas oportunidades para ver auroras boreales.

En febrero, los días vuelven a ser más largos y comienzan la temporada de esquí de fondo y la pesca de temporada en las islas Lofoten. Desde principios de abril, el cielo vuelve a ser muy luminoso, por lo que ya no es posible ver auroras boreales hasta la siguiente temporada.

En avión
Hay vuelos regulares frecuentes desde la mayoría de ciudades de Noruega hasta el aeropuerto de Bodø, el aeropuerto Harstad/Narvik, el aeropuerto de Svolvær, el aeropuerto de Leknes y el aeropuerto de Røst Airport.
El vuelo de Oslo a Bodø tarda una hora y media y de allí a las Lofoten, unos 20 o 30 minutos más en avión o unas tres o cuatro horas en barco. Si sales desde Harstad/Evenes, tardarás entre dos horas y media y cuatro horas en coche o autobús a las Lofoten.
También existe una conexión en helicóptero entre Bodø and Værøy.

Moverse por Lofoten
La E10 (la carretera del rey Olaf V) es la principal carretera que conecta Lofoten de oeste a este. Viajar en transporte público requiere un poco de planificación, especialmente si quieres ir a cualquier lugar lejos de la E10, por lo que deberías comprobar los horarios con detalle. También puedes coger el tren que va de Oslo a Trondheim y continuar desde allí en tren hasta Bodø con el ferrocarril Nordland, que tarda unas diez horas. En Bodø, se puede coger un ferri o un barco exprés a las Lofoten.
