El Norte de Noruega en invierno es un destino obligado tanto para los aficionados a la pesca como para los comidistas. La industria pesquera de Lofoten es la mayor del mundo dedicada al bacalao.
El bacalao del Ártico nororiental, o bacalao de Noruega, es uno de los productos más importantes para la economía del país, y uno de los más sostenibles. De enero a abril, ejemplares de esta especie llegan desde el mar de Barents a la costa norte de Noruega, entre Haugesund y Finnmark, para desovar.
Tradicionalmente, cerca de la mitad de estos peces solían volver a la zona alrededor de las islas Lofoten, donde sus padres habían desovado tres o cuatro años antes. Esto hizo que la industria pesquera de Lofoten, o lofotfisket, se convirtiese en la mayor del mundo en cuanto al bacalao de temporada. Sin embargo, en los últimos años una gran cantidad de ejemplares de este tipo de bacalao ha llegado a las costas de Vesterålen o Senja, más al norte.
El invierno es normalmente la mejor época para la pesca en todo el Norte de Noruega. Apúntate a una excursión de pesca, alquila tu propia embarcación, o pesca desde tierra firme rodeado de hermosas montañas cubiertas de nieve.
Ir a esquiar, salir de ruta por la nieve, o visitar alguno de los muchos museos o preciosas aldeas de pescadores de la zona son otras cosas que hacer aquí en invierno. ¡Quizás hasta llegues a ver la aurora boreal!
En el Norte de Noruega puedes degustar bacalao fresco en muchos restaurantes de gran calidad. Si no puedes venir a esta parte del país, no te preocupes: conocidos chefs en ciudades como Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger o Ålesund también preparan nuevos y elaborados platos de bacalao.
Durante el resto del año, puedes disfrutar de innumerables variedades de pescado seco. Algo que sin duda no debes dejar pasar si visitas el norte del país.
