La ruta panorámica noruega de Gamle Strynefjellsvegen, una de las 18 rutas nacionales, es la carretera histórica que atraviesa el puerto de montaña de Strynefjellet, entre Lom y Stryn.

Siguiendo la antigua carretera

Esta carretera es un museo en sí misma: se trata de una obra de ingeniería que ha resistido las inclemencias de la naturaleza durante los siglos. Por no hablar del precioso paisaje montañoso que la rodea. La ruta panorámica de Gamle Strynefjellsvegen tiene 27 kilómetros de longitud y discurre entre Grotli y Videsæter.

Fue la antigua carretera principal entre Lom, en Ottadalen, y Stryn, y conectaba el interior del este con el Nordfjord en el oeste.

Para llegar a ella, tendrás que conducir unas seis horas desde Oslo, Bergen o Trondheim, o unas tres horas desde Ålesund.

Bakeriet i Lom es una parada imprescindible en cualquier ruta por carretera, aunque lo más seguro es que tengas que hacer cola.

Después dirígete al inicio de la ruta en Grotli, donde puedes pasar la noche o disfrutar de una comida casera en el hotel Grotli Høyfjellshotell. En la zona también encontrarás un panel informativo (en la imagen) con datos sobre la antigua carretera.

Sigue la encantadora y estrecha carretera durante unos cuatro kilómetros hasta llegar al lago Heillstuguvatnet, un lugar ideal para hacer fotografías y un excelente punto de partida para varias rutas de senderismo o para pescar.

En las inmediaciones también se encuentran los restos de un avión derribado durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, así como un monumento conmemorativo que merece la pena visitar.

La carretera es conocida por sus muros construidos a mano y sus hileras de hitos de protección. El aumento del turismo en los fiordos occidentales fue lo que impulsó su construcción a finales del siglo XIX y en 2009 se declaró carretera protegida por su valor histórico.

Continúa durante siete kilómetros entre arroyos, riachuelos y montañas imponentes hasta el lago Vassvendtjønnin, el punto más alto de la ruta a 1139 metros sobre el nivel del mar.

Los siguientes 13 kilómetros transcurren junto al lago Langvatnet y dentro del valle Videdalen. Contempla estos paisajes espectaculares mientras comienzas el descenso por el puerto de montaña.

The farm and the Trollbu farm cluster are located in a quiet area at the foot of Brenndalsbreen, not far from the famous Briksdalsbreen. Several well-known destinations are within a short drive, including Olden, Loen, Hoven and Stryn. The turquoise Oldedalsvatnet is only a 5-minute drive away. At Yrineste, canoes and kayaks can be rented during the main season. Accommodation is available from May to the end of September in cabins and apartments. Booking is available via the website or Booking.com. The units are located in cabins and two restored 17th and 18th century houses, part of the Trollbu farm cluster. In total, the cluster includes three houses: two cabins and one building with two apartments (first and second floor). The total capacity is 22 beds. All units are equipped with kitchen or kitchenette, living room, sofa, TV, seating area, and WC/shower. Extra beds are available on request. One cabin (Voljastova no. 2) includes a wood-burning stove. All bathrooms were renovated in winter 2023. The area is peaceful, surrounded by high mountains and green valley sides. The restaurant, located in a rebuilt barn, accommodates up to 90 guests for events, meetings and gatherings. It is built on the foundation of the original barn from 1895 and was completed in 2005. During the main season, homemade farm food, coffee, cake, ice cream, drinks and homemade beer are served. No tardarás en encontrarte con la cascada Videfossen. Párate a observar cómo el agua se precipita por el acantilado.

En la parte superior hay un mirador que da la sensación de estar justo sobre el agua. Aprovecha para sacar fotos o simplemente para admirar las vistas y la fuerza de la naturaleza. Si te apetece quedarte más tiempo por la zona, puedes reservar una o dos noches en el hotel Videseter, al otro lado de la carretera.

Después, continúa por una sinuosa carretera de montaña durante unos dos kilómetros hasta otra cascada. La impresionante Øvstefossen cae en el valle de Hjelledalen y cuenta con un sendero de 200 metros con barandillas de acero, que permiten acercarse de forma segura al agua espumosa.

A estas alturas técnicamente ya has completado la ruta panorámica, pero la antigua carretera continúa once kilómetros más hasta el pueblo de Hjelle.

De camino pasarás por el puente de Jøl, que data de 1883. Esta antigua estructura de piedra ya no está en uso, pero puedes parar para hacer fotos y contemplar este pedazo de la historia.

Una de las primeras cosas que verás en Hjelle es el hotel Hjelle y Gamlebutikken, una tienda y cafetería históricas. ¿Por qué no pruebas su deliciosa merienda o curioseas entre sus estanterías llenas de porcelana inglesa? Este es también el punto de partida si quieres recorrer la ruta en sentido contrario. Aquí también encontrarás información sobre el recorrido.

Hjelle es un idílico pueblo a orillas del lago Strynsvatnet que parece sacado de una postal. Además, es un sitio estupendo para pasar unos días explorando la naturaleza noruega.

Desde Hjelle puedes conducir unos 26 kilómetros hasta Stryn, otro muy buen punto de partida para la aventura. Aquí puedes esquiar durante todo el año en las montañas cercanas, unirte a una excursión guiada por glaciares o darte un baño refrescante en las aguas cristalinas del lago Lovatnet (en la imagen).

En Loen, otra localidad cercana, puedes subir con el teleférico Loen Skylift hasta la cima del monte Hoven o, si prefieres una opción más aventurera, por una vía ferrata. Y, como recompensa, nada mejor que una buena comida elaborada con productos locales en el restaurante Hoven, situado en lo alto de la montaña.

Información útil antes de ir

En algunos tramos la carretera se vuelve muy estrecha y hay varias curvas cerradas, así que conviene estar atento al tráfico que viene en sentido contrario. No se permite el paso a vehículos de más de ocho metros de longitud con una carga por eje superior a ocho toneladas.

Circula despacio por la antigua carretera de gravilla y utiliza los apartaderos para facilitar el paso de los vehículos que vienen de frente.

La carretera permanece cerrada durante los meses de invierno, aproximadamente de septiembre u octubre a mayo o junio, y también puede cerrarse en otros momentos del año por motivos como el mal tiempo.

Información para ciclistas: el mejor punto de partida es Grotli y es una ruta relativamente corta que combina tramos de asfalto y gravilla.
