El secreto del esquí radica en los detalles

El esquí es un deporte profundamente arraigado en la cultura noruega. Aquí podrás sentirte como un gran profesional, o simplemente pasarlo en grande sobre las pistas.

Cuando vengas a Noruega, probablemente oirás la historia de Sondre Nordheim, el legendario noruego que inventó la primera fijación de esquí relativamente estable del mundo y que es, con frecuencia, conocido como el gran pionero del esquí moderno.

Pero el mundo del esquí ha evolucionado mucho desde la mitad­ del siglo XIX (¡gracias a dios!) y hoy en día, esquiar en Noruega podría ser como hacer snowboard, practicar actividades con esquí de doble punta en parques de nieve o incluso hacer kitesquí.

En los destinos turísticos de esquí de montaña la temporada se extiende desde el otoño a la primavera y si está situado en un glaciar, algunos incluso permanecen abiertos durante el verano. Aunque hay lugares para practicar el esquí ­de fondo y alpino por todo el país, los destinos más populares están situados en las montañas de la parte central y oriental de Noruega. Además de funiculares, pendientes y senderos, estos destinos ofrecen alojamiento, buena comida y ocio nocturno.

Pero si quieres conocer una genuina y tradicional experiencia de esquí en Noruega, quizás no deberías enfocarte tanto en la técnica, el lugar o el momento, sino en cuáles son las tradiciones más importantes aquí. Los deportes de invierno están profundamente arraigados en la cultura noruega, lo cual explica por qué existen aquí tantos rituales (y opiniones) como estupendas pistas.

Intenta hacer una ruta de ­esquí de fondo en el bosque con la mochila de naranjas frescas, y termos llenos de chocolate caliente, ponche de grosella negra (sin alcohol), un matpakke noruego (comida para llevar) y cojines de espuma para sentarte cómodamente.

Y antes de ponerte el mono y fijar la correa de los esquís, habla con algún local para obtener información sobre la marca de chocolate que hay que comprar. Después de esto, te integrarás en el ambiente noruego en un tiempo récord.

    Seguridad en la montaña

    Noruega es un lugar increíble, con paisajes de belleza indómita, montañas, valles y fiordos. Pero antes de adentrarte en esta naturaleza salvaje, asegúrate de conocer las nueve normas básicas del código de montaña noruego para no correr ningún riesgo:

    1. Planifica tu viaje e informa a otros sobre la ruta que has elegido.
    2. Adapta las rutas planificadas de acuerdo a la capacidad del grupo y a las condiciones climatológicas.
    3. Presta atención al clima previsto y a las alertas sobre avalanchas.
    4. Vete equipado para el mal tiempo y para cualquier eventual complicación de las condiciones meteorológicas, incluso cuando se trate de rutas cortas.
    5. Lleva el equipo adecuado para poder ayudarte a ti mismo y a los demás.
    6. Selecciona rutas seguras. Aprende a reconocer el terreno propenso a avalanchas y de hielo poco seguro.
    7. Utiliza un mapa y una brújula. Revisa siempre dónde te encuentras.
    8. No te avergüences si tienes que regresar al punto de partida.
    9. Conserva tus energías y busca refugio si es necesario.

    Se trata sobre todo de mantener la calidad de vida, no solo en la actualidad, sino también de cara al futuro. De reconocer que todo el mundo es tan importante como lo somos nosotros mismos, y de tomar las medidas necesarias para implementar estos valores en todos los aspectos de nuestra vida. No es fácil, ni es algo que vaya a lograrse de la noche a la mañana. Pero, definitivamente, merece la pena.
