Beiggja is the result of a spontaneous musical collaboration that emerged in the winter of 2024 and was captured on the quartet’s debut album Morning, released this summer on Hubro. During the winter hibernation, pianist Kjetil Mulelid, saxophonist Kika Sprangers, bassist Mats Eilertsen and drummer Per Oddvar Johansen gathered in the latter’s home in Lommedalen. Everyone brought a few tunes and ideas, then they pressed the record button and let the interplay take shape. It turned out to be a beautiful first meeting, which grew into the recording of the album.

Bergen Jazzforum & Columbi Egg present: Benedicte Maurseth – Hardanger fiddle Håkon Stene – rhythmic and melodic percussion, electronics Mats Eilertsen – double bass, electric bass Morten Qvenild – piano, electronics When Benedicte Maurseth released the album Hárr (Hubro Records) in 2022, the visionary and internationally acclaimed Hardanger fiddle player was praised for creating a masterpiece. The album was awarded the Nordic Music Prize and was named one of the ten best folk music albums in the world by The Guardian. In 2025, the follow-up Mirra was released – this time with the wild reindeer near Maurseth’s home region by Hardangervidda taking the solo role.

Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra - Bachs Matteuspasjon
Bach never expected his music to outlive him. But when it came to his musical setting of the story of Christ’s arrest and execution, the St Matthew Passion, he took steps to ensure the music would last. First, he made a pristine copy of the score in ink and repaired it as he grew old. Second, he went to extraordinary lengths to make this score speak beyond its time, its place and even its religion - to connect with anyone of any age in any time. Many believe the music of the St Matthew Passion has never been surpassed. Either way, its vivid storytelling, layers of musical beauty and spiritual power have maintained an urgent and transfixing power. Artistic Partner Jan Villem de Vriend returns to Bergen to conduct this monument of western civilization - a work that sings with divinity and speaks with humanity, and challenges a community of listeners to embark on a spiritual journey that rewards openness and concentration. World-leading soloists including Magdalena Kozena and James Gilchrist join the orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Chorus and Edvard Grieg Kor for these Eastertide performances of Bach’s great Passion.

Fra øyeblikket kveldens finske Dima Slobodeniouk løfter dirigentpinnen til han legger den fra seg, har publikum fått oppleve et fyrverkeri av en konsert pakket med energi, driv, humor, virtuositet og det hjerteskjærende vakre. Kveldens konsert innledes med et fargerikt og eksplosivt orkestralt utbrudd i John Adams’ verk Slonimsky’s Earbox fra 1995. Adams er inspirert av den gnistrende åpningen i Stravinskys symfoniske dikt Le chant du Rossignol. Slonimsky i tittelen viser til russeren Nicholas Slonimsky, som skrev en rekke bøker om musikk, deriblant The Thesaurus of Scales and Melodic Patterns, som har hatt stor betydning for Adams. Dmitri Sjostakovitsj var bare 21 år gammel da han skrev sin første av to pianokonserter. Den første, fra 1927, er et fantastisk eksempel på en ungdommelig sammensmelting av hans uutgrunnelige humor, hans seriøse fokus på å komponere virtuos musikk og ulike stilarter. Mellom to livlige og humørfylte satser har komponisten plassert en hjerteskjærende vakker sakte sats. Sjostakovitsj skrev konserten som en fødselsdagspresang for sin sønn Maxim. Symfoni i tre satser var det første verket Stravinsky komponerte etter at han ble amerikansk statsborger i 1945. I musikken kan vi gjenkjenne elementer fra hans andre komposisjoner, som pianokonserten, musikken til Hollywoodfilmen Sangen om Bernadette og Vårofferet. Selv kalte Stravinsky verket sin krigssymfoni siden den var påbegynt under andre verdenskrig, noe som kan forklare den store dynamikken i verket. Kveldens pianosolist er italienske Federico Colli, som av International Piano Magazine tidligere ble omtalt som en av 30 pianister under 30 år som trolig ville dominere på verdens scener i årene framover. Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra - Nielsen's Inextinguishable
Carl Nielsen filled his music with the unstoppable energies of life itself, until the First World War began to tear Europe apart. In his Symphony No. 4 from 1916, which launches with an orchestral eruption akin to a violently bursting volcano, the composer’s characteristic musical energy comes close to being smothered. In the end, the life force that seems to propel so much of Nielsen’s music forward proves utterly ‘Inextinguishable’. The talented young musicians of the Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra set their skills towards this most bracing of Nordic symphonies, after the young Danish bassoonist Bjarke Scousboe plays the sprightly concerto Mozart wrote for the instrument when he was just 18 years old. In 2011, a 32-year-old Ørjan Matre wrote a spectacular new work for the opening of the new concert hall in Kristiansand, Kilden. Resurgence is an immersive, surround-sound work in which every audience member hears the music differently - a spectacular opening for what promises to be an invigorating concert under Antony Hermus. Borealis - a festival for experimental music
Borealis is a festival for experimental music. A place where we celebrate the music that falls between the gaps. A place for adventurous listening. Bringing together new musical experiments from Bergen, Norway and around the world, Borealis occupies the city for 5 days each March, taking over the art galleries, concert halls and warehouse spaces, with concerts, installations, talks and films. Borealis works with living composers, sound artists, improvisers and musicians, to develop projects that rearrange the furniture of the musical world, to question our assumptions about what music is and where it can go. We do not stick to one type or genre of music, but open the doors to the most adventurous and innovative music makers to bring us something new. Borealis is open for everybody; for the first time listener to the seasoned musicologist, from the very smallest to the oldest and wisest. At Borealis we are all exploring together.

14.30 Doors open 15.00 Concert starts Over the years, BIT20 Ensemble has been one of Borealis' most steadfast artistic partners in the city presenting adventurous new concert programs by living composers. This year, BIT20 ensemble brings to the concert stage an exciting one-hour program of contemporary works by Helena Tulve (Estonia), Diana Soh (Singapore), Øyvind Torvund (Norway) and Hannah Kendall (UK). Between soft-spoken introspection and mechanical jubilance, the program builds on musical contrasts showcasing the many facets of Bergen´s foremost contemporary music ensemble. Beginning with Helena Tulve´s Stream, the listener is introduced to an undercurrent of quiet tension, eventually culminating in the noisy number Neon Forest Space by Bergen´s very own Øyvind Torvund. Diana Soh´s Modicum, translated to measure in English, brings the listener to a reflective moment in the possibilities of angular shapes of instrumental sounds. Finally, Hannah Kendall's reflective Even Sweetness Can Scratch the Throat offers the audience a playful ending, with sounds filtered through megaphones and radio effects. Considering the varied repertoire, this concert is a poetic and powerful culmination of musical ideas which rounds off Borealis festival 2026.

DE MUSIKALSKE DVERGENE
Five gentlemen started a rock band with a motto and a manifesto: Guaranteed ambitionless rock! They had a firm belief that if they wrote songs about everyday things and sang the way they spoke, people would understand what they were talking about. Remember to book a table for the best experience They appeared during the wave of Norwegian “New Wave bands” at the end of the seventies and chose the elaborate name De Musikalske Dvergene (The Musical Dwarfs). The name was a self-ironic and cheerful jab at the heavy-sounding names other groups of the time adorned themselves with. Most of those “other groups” have now disappeared, some have resurfaced, but De Musikalske Dvergene have been here all along. They quickly earned a reputation as a down-to-earth cult band, but while trends and hairstyles have changed, the Dwarfs have stood firm and held on to their original motto. De Musikalske Dvergene have stubbornly continued to deliver an ever-growing collection of bittersweet and self-ironic songs about the mishaps of everyday life. Songs that fit both small and large concerts, as sing-alongs at pre-parties, parties, and after-parties, or simply as the soundtrack to doing the dishes. Those who once cheered them on have long since moved on to other pursuits. But new fans have arrived, often young men, and where there are young men, there are also young women. De Musikalske Dvergene thrive best in close, warm, and direct contact with their audience – without airs or nonsense! In addition to six critically acclaimed albums, De Musikalske Dvergene are behind the book DMD – Ned Ables Alle’ (Eide Publishing), written by former guitarist Allert Bøkenes and songwriter and singer Helge Grønhaug. Helge Grønhaug has also written the book Grønhaug’s Musings, based on his own commentaries in Herreavdelingen on NRK P1.

Cómo moverse por Bergen
Es fácil moverse por la zona de Bergen gracias a su excelente red de autobuses.
El metro ligero circula entre el parque Byparken y el aeropuerto de Begen. La tarjeta turística Bergen Card permite viajar en autobús y metro ligero sin coste adicional.
El barco es muchas veces la mejor opción para moverse por los alrededores de Bergen, sobre todo si has de cruzar algún fiordo.
En coche
Desde Oslo, puedes llegar a Bergen por carretera atravesando la meseta de montaña de Hardangervidda, o las montañas de Hemsedal (Hemsedalsfjellet) o la localidad de montaña de Haukeli (entre siete y ocho horas y media de viaje).
